Your Application Journey
We want applying to Maritime to be a positive experience. Here's what you can expect from the recruitment process.
Expanders
-
1. Finding the right role
You begin by exploring our current vacancies and identifying a role that matches your skills, experience and aspirations.
Take time to learn more about the school and Maritime Academy Trust, and read the job description and person specification carefully to understand what we are looking for. As you do, think about the skills, experience and achievements you can highlight in your application.
Where possible, we encourage prospective candidates to visit the school before applying. It's a great opportunity to experience the school environment, meet colleagues and find out more about the role. Contact details of the school will be included in the vacancy advert, or you can contact our Recruitment Team to arrange a visit where appropriate.
If you have any questions about the role or the recruitment process, our team will be happy to help before you apply.
-
2. Preparing your application
To help you submit a strong application, please take time to:
- Complete all sections of the application form fully, providing examples that demonstrate your skills and experience.
- Use the person specification to guide your responses and show how your experience matches the role requirements.
- Include details of your referees, including your most recent employer where possible.
- Provide all relevant information within the application form, as CVs cannot be accepted as a standalone application.
-
3. Submitting your application
Once you are happy with your application, submit it through MyNewTerm before the closing date.
You will receive confirmation that your application has been received.
We review applications as they are received and, in some cases, vacancies may close early if a suitable candidate is identified. We therefore encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
-
4. Shortlisting
Applications are carefully reviewed against the job description and person specification.
We look for evidence of the skills, experience and qualities needed for the role.
If you are shortlisted, we will contact you with details of the next stage of the process.
-
5. Interview & assessment
If you are shortlisted, you may be invited to an interview and, depending on the role, additional activities such as a presentation, task or school-based activity.
We will always share full details in advance so you know what to expect and can prepare with confidence.
We recommend using examples from your experience when answering questions. The STAR approach (Situation, Task, Action, Result) can be a helpful way to structure your responses.
-
6. Outcome
Following the interview process, we will contact all candidates to confirm the outcome.
If you are successful, you will receive a conditional offer subject to completion of pre-employment checks.
Where appropriate, feedback may be provided to support your future development.
-
7. Safeguarding & Safer Recruitment
At Maritime Academy Trust, safeguarding is our highest priority. We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children and young people across all our schools.
All appointments are subject to our safer recruitment procedures, which include appropriate pre-employment checks such as enhanced DBS checks, references and right to work verification.
We are proud to be an inclusive employer and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. We are committed to ensuring our recruitment process is fair, supportive and accessible for all candidates.

8. Joining Maritime
Starting a new role is an exciting step, and we want every new colleague to feel welcomed, supported and confident from the moment they become part of Maritime.
If you are successful, we will guide you through the necessary pre-employment checks and provide information to help you prepare for your first day.
You will receive a structured onboarding and induction programme designed to help you understand our Trust, our schools and the important role you will play within our community.
Your induction will introduce you to our values, ways of working, key policies and the support available to you, while helping you build relationships with your new colleagues and settle into your role.
From your first day onwards, you will be part of a supportive team committed to helping you grow, develop and make a difference.
