Proposed Expansion of Danecourt School
Danecourt is a special school for primary aged children all of whom have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The children attending Danecourt have severe and complex needs, such as autism. Danecourt School currently has 185 children with special educational needs on roll and has been asked by the Local Authority to submit an application to the Department for Education to increase the number of special school places available to children within Medway.
The aim is to use vacant spaces within two of the mainstream primary schools within Maritime Trust – Featherby and Bligh Schools, to create satellite provisions. The satellite provisions will provide an additional 48 high quality specialist places for children in Medway, reducing the number of primary age pupils needing to travel out of the county to access specialist provision.
Demand for special school places in Medway is high. Unfortunately the school is unable to offer additional places to children due to the lack of space to expand and develop the current provision or the ability to create additional classes within the existing school design.
Through the creation of the satellite provisions, Danecourt would be able to offer up to an additional 48 places to improve the outcomes and opportunities for primary aged children with special educational needs. Thus, supporting the Local Authority, the families and the children who would be eligible.
Maritime Academy Trust will be holding consultation meetings to discuss the proposed expansion. More information about the proposal, the consultation meeting dates and information on how to book a place at one of the consultation meetings can be found by clicking the button below:
