MAT Cross Country Event
The first ever MAT cross- country took place today with four of our schools taking part. Brooklands, Nightingale, Timbercroft and Greenacres met in perfect running conditions, as the children prepared for what was for many of them, their first ever long distance race. The competition was broken down into individual races and a combined team event.
The event kicked off with the Year 3/4 girls race. Running 2 laps of the course the children set off at brisk pace. Timbercroft were the early pace setters and it always looked likely a winner was coming from them. Demi brilliantly pulled away to just edge her school teammate Marliah to take the first gold medal of the event. Gabby from Brooklands came in to take the bronze medal.
The year 3/4 boys race followed. Over the same distance there only ever looked one winner from the start. Taking a massive lead in the first lap, Fletcher from Brooklands maintained his lead until the finish to take the gold medal. Lucas and Mason from Timbercroft chased him down valiantly but had to settle for silver and bronze.
After the first two events Timbercroft were out in front on the team event. The third race was year 5/6 girls running 3 laps of the course. After a very even first half of the race Willow from Brooklands took to the front with her beautiful running style and she never looked back cruising to a great victory. She was followed in by two more Brooklands students as Soashina and Layla came in to take 2nd and 3rd.
This left it very close in the team challenge bringing it all down to the final race. Again a very even first half to the race with multiple boys leading at different times. However timing it to absolute perfection was Kaden from Timbercroft and although Charlie of Brooklands tried to run him down Kaden's victory was never in doubt. A great second place for Brooklands kept it close but with Dean coming in third for Timbercroft and some great top 10 finishes Timbercroft went on to lift the team title.
Although the spoils were mainly shared between two schools all the children gave 100 percent effort and can be extremely proud of themselves!
Well done all!
